The Rodarte Spring Summer 2021 collection brought a bit of California love to New York Fashion Week. Debuting a lookbook (as opposed to this season’s usual video presentation), sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy captured the collection in the California hills. Against the neutral browns and greens of the Californian hillsides, the collection’s color palette pops. Made up of bubble gum pink, pale blue, white, rose red, and green, the color palette, like many this season, reflects the hues of a lush garden.
Collection standouts are:
This bubblegum pink tracksuit. Loungewear is all the rage right now, considering we are all lounging in our homes, thanks to the pandemic.
This look combines a western theme with an impressive modern twist. This western-style top features floral embroidery and puffy sleeves with a rose fastening the collar. Paired with joggers that feature in intricate blue and rose print and matching belt but black and white striped ankle cuffs, this look is complicated yet chic.
This prairie-style puffy sleeve dress with intricate doily-esque patterns featuring roses and blues almost the same blue as the sky in the background. Of course, the stand out is the rose adorned bubblegum pink veil.
Not to be missed, Rodarte’s accessories feature black fishnet pearl-embellished gloves. While elbow-length upper gloves were popular last season, it looks like short gloves are in the season.
Rodarte is well known for their weird and theatrical yet whimsical designs, so this collection is a warm welcome amongst traditional garden-inspired collections we have seen this season.
