Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o admitted to Katie Couric that he lied about his girlfriend about his fake dead girlfriend. CNN reports that he reveals that he lied in an interview with Katie Couric which will be aired this Thursday. In the interview Manti says that he believed that he was in a relationship with Lennay Kekua, however he found out in December that the death of his girlfriend was a hoax. He was led to believe that his girlfriend died from Leukemia on September 12, after a car accident.
Manti also claims that two days later he had to go on national TV for the Heisman Trophy Presentation and he decided to lie to the media. He says that he had no choice but to keep going along with the lie that his girlfriend had died the same day as his grandmother. According to CNN during the interview Manti says, “Now I get a phone call on December 6, saying that she’s alive and then I’m going be put on national TV two days later. And to ask me about the same question. You know, what would you do?…What I went through was real. You know, the feeling, the pain, the sorrow — that was all real, and that’s something that I can’t fake.”
