Growing up as a tomboy I can almost pinpoint the exact moment I fell in love with heels and shoes in general. I was about 19 when I slipped my foot into a pair of Nine West black leather pointy toe stilettos and before my eyes watched my calves and legs magically reshape. I immediately felt sexy, confident, and like no one could tell me nothing! So I set out to find out why almost every woman I have come across is in love with shoes. Is it the same reasons I have and why? Why exactly do shoes make women feel sexy and confident?
One shared sentiment among almost every woman I spoke with is the joy in knowing that no matter what your size the playing field is level when it comes to shoes. You see shoes have a tendency to be more forgiving than your jeans or that little black dress and fit whether you gain or lose a few pounds. Then there are the simple aesthetics of wearing a pair of high heels that just makes a woman feel sexy. The elongated legs, the appearance or highlighting of defined calves, and how it compliments our wardrobe. Then there is the ego boost…we never seem to comment on it but it’s there and we love it. You know what I’m talking about, the admiration in another man or woman’s eyes over your shoe that just makes you feel good.
When we as women feel sexy or admired we feel confident in almost everything we do. Whether where in a board meeting or going out for date night we feel a sense of well deserved power from our shoes. So much so that at times we suffer threw pain and spare no expense just to wear a particular shoe and most of the time we think nothing of it. Some may think the connection between a woman and her shoe is silly but to me it makes perfect sense that the thing that literally carry’s us all day can also uplift us (see how deep I got there).
Shoe love crosses generations, weight, race, ethnicity, sexuality, and gender. What it boils down to is that a pair of well-kept heels are forever; so are the emotions they evoke and the confidence they supply.
