Jason Wu opened up the Spring/Summer 2021 NYFW season (digitally) with a rooftop oasis bound to evoke envy in many a homebound New Yorker. As rich hues breezed down the runway seemingly ablaze in the late afternoon sunlight, watchers could not help but picture themselves wearing Wu’s pieces on a faraway island with a drink in hand and warm, damp sand under their toes. Models accessorized with cowrie shell jewelry, tousled beach hair, and delicately laid cornrows perfectly punctuated the tropical collection.
Opening the show, Indya Moore (who plays Angel Evangelista in the FX television series, Pose) floated down the walkway in a burnt orange number featuring what appeared to be laser cut eyelets along the hem. Paired with chunky “dad sandals” and a sunhat slung around the neck, this look is the perfect ensemble for a sunset walk along the beach.
The collection carried on with picturesque pieces featuring batwing sleeves, leisure suits, and co-ords featuring vibrant midi skirts (with pockets!) Collection standouts were:
This neon-on-neon ensemble. The yellow-green pigment paired with the melon hued pinkish-red vibrant skirt created a playful yet refreshing color clash.
This all-white leisure suit featuring a sharp-shouldered blazer paired with a matching bandeau and flowy Bermuda shorts.
The bra tops layered over the ballon-sleeved prairie dresses (hello, again cottagecore trend!)
If we could describe the collection in one word, it would be wanderlust.
Can you believe this entire set was created on the Spring Studios rooftop? Magnificent.
