Billboard announced a new relationship with the popular NFT avatar collection World of Women in March 2, taking a step further into the NFT ecosystem (WoW). Yam Karkai, the creator of World of Warcraft, will assist the music industry behemoth in commemorating the 2022 Billboard Women in Music event and summit.

Karkai will create one-of-a-kind Billboard magazine covers in the likenesses of Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and Mariah Carey in honor of three of the most renowned female musicians of all time. Following that, the matching NFTs will be auctioned off on the FTX NFT marketplace. It’s logical to expect that the artwork will fetch a good price if the WoW sales volume is a good indicator.

WoW has been attracting attention since its introduction in July 2021 as one of the top female-led NFT ventures. Guy Oseary just added WoW to his roster of clients. Oseary also manages Madonna, U2, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Bored Ape Yacht Club, in case you didn’t know. On OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace, the WoW collection has produced about 55,000 ETH (nearly $155 million) in sales volume, ranking it among the top 15 most traded PFP NFT collections of all time.

In a statement, Billboard President Julian Holguin said, “We are excited to cooperate with World of Women and Yam Karkai on this momentous first for Billboard.”

“This partnership’s cultural significance is perfectly aligned with our goal to promote women who are breaking down boundaries and changing culture in music and beyond,” he added.

The NFT magazine cover auction will donate a portion of the earnings to non-profit organizations chosen by each of the three featured celebrities. The proceeds from Christina Aguilera’s cover will go to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Madonna’s to City of Joy, and Mariah Carey’s to Camp Mariah’s Fresh Air Fund.

People who buy Billboard’s NFTs will get an all-expenses-paid trip to Billboard’s Women in Music event in Los Angeles in 2023, where they will walk the red carpet and meet Karkai.

“It is an amazing honor and a dream come true for the founding World of Women team to be a part of such a historic time with such an enormously inspirational, diverse, and prominent group of women,” Karkai said in a statement. “Billboard’s Women in Music show is a one-of-a-kind event, and there is no better venue for us to grow as a group and have our views heard than Billboard.”
