After another great year of exhibiting the designs that will define the fashion world in the coming months, London Fashion Week has come to an end. Some trends have already begun to make their way into the public, while others are fresh, new, and sure to become popular as the new season progresses.
If you are ready to start changing your wardrobe for spring, these seven LFW fashion trends will help you stay ahead of the curve.
Coveted Cuts
Using sharp, cut-out parts to create distinctive and streamlined designs was by far one of the most popular trends at London Fashion Week. This trend has been seen before, but designers gave it new life with incisions around the rib cage and in the center of the chest, as shown in Nensi Dojaka’s designs, which blended her award-winning style with shoestring accents and spaghetti straps.
If you only had one stylish item to get you through the spring/summer of ’22, make it this crop top. This blouse is the embodiment of minimum effort, maximum effect. It’s perfect for breakfast with the girlfriends as well as nights out on the town.
The split-hem sleeves, on-trend cut-out, and drawstring design, which can be tied in the front or elegantly across the back for two different looks, are our favorites. All of these fashionable features make this garment appear much more expensive than it is.
Bridgerton Bustiers
Bustiers and corsets on the catwalk aren’t exactly new, but 2017 London Fashion Week saw greater experimentation with the trend. Feathers and sequins added an on-trend ’22 edge to the style, which embraces maximalism and promises to be the center point of any outfit.
If you’re just getting started with the corset trend, this Urban Outfitters offering is just bold enough to stand out without pushing you too far. It lacks the Bridgerton authenticity of bodice-style lace or clip fastenings, but we enjoy the piped seam accents around the sides and under the cups. For a nice balance of styles, pair it with wide-leg jeans and an oversized blazer.
Revival Of The Fittest
For a long time, upcycling (or recycling) has been a phrase in the fashion business, but firms have been claiming to be sustainable only sporadically – until now. Conner Ives, a young fashion genius whose raw materials are made up of 75% repurposed clothing, has been the designer to watch this season, and his show at London Fashion Week didn’t disappoint. His runway debut has spurred a broader discussion about how brands may produce fresh and bespoke items using existing materials and clothes.
Vestiaire Collective is an online fashion store that sells original designer used clothing at reasonable costs. Because everything is one-of-a-kind, you’ll have to act quickly if you want to get a pre-loved bargain. This wool Acne scarf is one of our favorites – it’s quite similar to the viral Acne scarf that’s all over Instagram right now, but this one has a more discreet logo and a less bold colorway that we really enjoy.
Society Girl
If Elle Woods or Blair Waldorf wore it, there’s a good chance it walked the runway at London Fashion Week. Wool sweaters, low-rise jeans, and block-heel mules were all seen on the runway, along with chunky headbands and small sunglasses. The current trend is washed-out colours, which tends to overlap with the Y2K fashions that have been gaining popularity in recent months.
This top-handle bowler bag is the quintessential Society Girl accessory of the early noughties, with just enough space for a tube of lip gloss and a flip phone. If you want to use this as a going-out purse, the mint green colorway is trendy, and the optional crossbody strap adds convenience. We like how it checks off a number of style boxes while being ageless enough to avoid looking old at the end of a season cycle.
Hot Pink To Make The Fashionistas Wink
At this year’s London Fashion Week, designers from all over the world leaned on pink, with magenta little skirts, fuschia boots, and bubblegum blazers all making appearances on the runways. It’s related to the ‘Society Girl’ trend mentioned above, except instead of pastels, the bolder the better. Eudon Choi, who is known for his love of neutrals, brought out models in a blindingly brilliant pink, and we can anticipate to see that shade dominate next season’s trends as well.
In Ted Baker’s beautiful piece, all eyes will be on you. Its figure-flattering silhouette and pleated skirt give it a high-end appeal that belies its affordable price tag. The piece’s one shoulder crocheted top is distinctive, and we appreciate how it flows perfectly into the lovely skirt.
Demure Designs
A few shows during LFW included frilly collars, elegant bonnets, and clean gloves, most notably in Bora Aksu’s current collection. The main focus was a blend of royal blue and tea-party pink, with lovely bursts of lilac where the two tones overlapped. Designers also embraced this trend to experiment with textures, mixing lace with thick fabrics to create a contrast between old and new designs.
The high neckline and scallop detailing give this dress a traditional look that is updated by the length of the skirt. The dark denim blue color and button details on the collar and sleeve hems are our favorites. It keeps the look relaxed and uncomplicated. A belt would help to form the shapeless silhouette, but if that’s not an option, a bare leg and knee-high boots will strike a perfect mix between sensual and modest.
Big Up The Blazer
For the new season, the blazer gets a gigantic makeover, with big shoulders, wide lapels, and hefty sleeves turning up at numerous presentations. The tailoring trend isn’t going anywhere, but we’re glad to see a new take on an old favorite that gives us additional alternatives for back-to-work gear.
This jacket has a throwback vibe thanks to the padded shoulders and all-over check fabric, and we adore the manly lines and crisp lapels. The grey finish means you can pair this with pretty much anything in your wardrobe if you want to polish up your look with a fashion-focused item. Side pockets and a center vent ensure a comfortable and convenient fit, while the grey finish means you can pair it with pretty much anything in your wardrobe if you want to polish up your look with a fashion-focused item.
