Frère debuted a short film titled Destined for their Spring Summer 2021 NYFW presentation. Unlike many others on the schedule this season, they debuted a film with an actual script and even an action-packed fighting scene.
While we are not sure what the plot was, actor Michael K. Williams (of Lovecraft Country and The Wire) played a well-dressed wealthy gentleman very well.
Frère was sure to show their versatility in both women’s wear and menswear. Suits varying from terracotta orange (in the women’s department) to burgundy velvet (in the men’s department) were donned by actors and models alike.
The star-studded soundtrack set the scene for a lavish night out on the town. Opening up with Jay Z (one of the brands’ celebrity clientele) along with Snoh Aalegra and many others. The soundtrack celebrated current hip-hop and R&B, as well as old-school, featuring some Notorious B.I.G. The film made sure to highlight that the designer is no foreigner to casual looks. Amongst the various suits were a few luxe velvet (or perhaps velour) jackets with Frere adorned across the back in cursive.
Collection standouts were
This dapper olive green suit that opened up the film.
This velvet mint green (definitely a trending color this season) blazer. Here’s to hoping it is a full suit!
This burgundy velvet blazer, worn by an actor, Ron J. Rock.
The film concluded with the designer himself (Davidson Petit-Frère) making a cameo and speaking one of the very few lines in the film: “nice style“. Nice style indeed.
