Jonathan Simkhai debuted a socially distanced fashion show via NYFW.com. An empty Spring Studios runway served as the perfect venue for the video shoot for Simkhai’s Spring Summer 2021 collection. This is the first show to be seen this season inside Spring Studios as most have been held on the rooftop or outside. Of course, no showgoers were in attendance. In fact, the empty seats echoed just how much goes into the production of a New York Fashion Week show.
Simkhai had those perfectly breezy Spring days in mind featuring lavish trench coats, water-resistant leather (see the water droplets in the photos), and perfectly layer-able pleated skirts.
This collection features nudes and neutrals (tans, blacks, grays, and blush pink) that mesh well with any wearer’s wardrobe. With quality fabrics and attention to tailoring, Simkhai’s pieces are the perfect substitution for your basics, taking them from basics to elevated basics.
His collection features some of the pandemics’ most important fashion pieces: a cozy cardigan (for lounging at home), a trench (for a chilly evening outing), a frilly dress (for a socially distanced date), and a sturdy blazer (for all those Zoom calls where your top half has to look professional while your bottom half stays in pajama pants). You are halfway to your own personal staple wardrobe with this collection.
Jonathan Simkhai’s muted collection is a significant contrast to the pastel-hued collections we witnessed this week. It is a refreshing reminder of the ever-present minimalist fashion sense.
