Drink water, duh!

I know you hear this over and over again  – drink water and your skin will be great! But seriously, outside of drinking a great deal of water, you can make great changes to your skin by altering what you drink. Cut out excess sugars and caffeine (if you can bear it). Stop drinking soda, drink low-sugar juices when you are absolutely craving sugar, and cut off coffee if you can actually handle the caffeine withdrawal. Within weeks, you will see the instant change in your skin.

Regular visits to the dermatologist and an esthetician

Just as you schedule annual check-ups with your doctor, you should be checking in with your dermatologist annually (more often if necessary) and asking them to recommend a good esthetician for you to regularly visit. Dermatologists can assist you in addressing ongoing skin conditions and recommend treatment and remedies for you to attempt. Estheticians can address your beauty concerns such as dark marks, scarring, and antiaging.

Assess your skin

Don’t be afraid to stare at yourself in the mirror, assess your skin and familiarize yourself with its landscape. Slight triggers such as a few minutes of exposure to pollen or a new food you tried for lunch can result in changes in your skin. Assess, assess, assess.

Change up your routine

Edit your skincare routine so that you are not using the same Neutrogena face scrub you’ve been using for the past decade. Are you still battling the same skin issues you were battling in middle school? If the answer is no, then you should not be using the same products you used in middle school.

You do not have to try all the newest and the latest skincare trends. Try incorporating natural remedies and treatments in your routine.

Do not pick!

No matter how hard it is to resist, picking at your pimples and spots can be destructive to your skin. With all the germs on your hands, picking at your skin is equal to using the same dirty washcloth for days on end. Whenever you feel a spot coming on, try treating with a spot treatment or DIY mask (i.e. – turmeric masks which reduce inflammation and pain).
