In the new Mecca Of Black Hollywood, a special evening took place on Saturday, Oct 5th, 2019. The world-renown trendsetting filmmaker, director, writer, actor Tyler Perry opened up his new studio for business. It is titled, of course, “Tyler Perry Studios” in the city, which took him in when he was once broke and hungry. He was coming from humble beginnings in the home of gumbo — the city of New Orleans, where the visionary was born and later taking his talents to the world.
He started as a playwrighter in 1998, and now in 2019, his new studio, Tyler Perry Studios, marks an excellent achievement for the culture. What was once a United States military base is now home to creatives. In a world where screenwriters rent and use spaces owned by major corporations, the black entrepreneur turned war into a place of love and growth.
Saturday was more than a party for celebs. Of course, the celebrities showed up. Friends such as Oprah Winfrey, Spike Lee, Halle Berry, Cicely Tyson, Samuel L. Jackson all were in attendance for Tyler. But this was a mark in history and should be considered more than a great party. This moment is a testimony of the time — a sign of black excellence and hope for all dreamers in life.
In the words of Frank Sinatra, Tyler did things “my way.” He took several risks and worked hard and now can smell the roses while he still lives. This 300-acre studio will house great successful films for years to come, and we all can say we are proud and can take a page from his book.
Mr.Perry paid homage to those who inspired him in the Entertainment Industry by naming the soundstages; Denzel Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Halle Berry, Sydney Poitier, Della Reese, Spike Lee, Harry Belafonte, Cicely Tyson, Whoopi Goldberg, Diahann Carroll, and Will Smith.
