Whoopi Goldberg is slated to star in Luck, an AppleTV+ film that follows Sam Greenfield (Eva Noblezada), the unluckiest person in the world, as she travels to the mysterious Land of Luck in an effort to bring her best friend Hazel some good fortune (Adelynn Spoon). Since humans are forbidden in the Land of Luck, her only hope is to join forces with the mystical creatures who live there.
Goldberg’s character, The Captain, is the chief of security in the fictional Land of Luck. The Oscar, Golden Globe, and Academy Award winning actress gave an interview about the film, her favorite element of animation, and how Keke Palmer “doesn’t need” her aid to get cast in the impending Sister Act sequel.
When I asked her to name her favorite aspect of animation, she replied, “I don’t ever have to put clothes on [laughs]. People don’t know what I’m wearing … or not wearing when voice acting.”
Knowing how successful Whoopi is, it was interesting to hear her reflections on her life and if there was ever a point when she believed it was pure luck, because that is the theme of the film. Using her own words, she believes, that’s true for the vast majority of her existence. She can name ten things that have changed in her life over the past year.
She added how what seems like terrible luck at first glance soon stands up and reveals itself to be wonderful fortune you simply failed to recognize. Because luck is random, it’s always shifting in our favor.
Fans are eagerly anticipating Sister Act 3, with Keke Palmer having shown an interest in appearing in it. The woman’s response was simple and direct.
“Here’s the deal — there are about nine spectacular people who have said over the past couple of years they would like to join the cast like Lizzo — just great people. I would like for them all to be a part of it so we’ll need to see what happens and we’ll find out. Keke [Palmer] really doesn’t need me — I know she has the new Jordan Peele film and it’s supposed to be off the hook.”
You’ll have a lucky weekend if you catch Goldberg’s latest film, Luck, premiering on AppleTV+ on August 5.
