The song “Tukoh Taka” by Nicki Minaj, Maluma, and Myriam Fares for the 2022 FIFA World Cup is the winner of this week’s Billboard new music poll.
In a survey released on Friday (November 18) on Billboard, listeners picked the trio’s upbeat and joyous new single as their favorite new release in the past week.
When compared to other recent releases, “Tukoh Taka” came out on top. This included songs by Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott (“Down In Atlanta”), Brockhampton (“The Family and TM”), Saweetie (“The Single Life EP”), and Disturbed (“Divisive”).
The track, “Official FIFA Fan Festival Anthem,” was created by Gordo, Play-N-Skillz, and Massari, and it features English, Spanish, and Arabic lyrics, making it the first song in the history of the FIFA World Cup to do so.
“I’m thrilled to be included in the official FIFA World Cup song! I’ve always hoped for a chance like this,” Maluma remarked in a press release. Our culture has reached new heights because of the inclusion of Latin music on a global track including equally impressive musicians singing in English and Arabic.
In the fan-voted poll, “other” came in second to “Tukoh Taka,” with 35% of the vote. The Family and its unexpected follow-up TM by Brockhampton came in third with 10% of the vote.
