Bella Hadid, a 25-year-old American (super)model, was a ubiquitious presence at this year’s Paris Fashion Weel. From the now-viral Coperni spray paint video to Victoria Beckham’s Paris debut to Sacai to Thom Brown to Isabel Marant, no catwalk presentation seemed complete without an appearance by Hadid. But there are many more pictures that stay in our minds’ eye. Images such as these are the ones that will remain in people’s minds as symbols of this week’s fashion.
Amsterdam – This week, employees at the Bijenkorf, an upscale department store in Amsterdam, went on strike. Workers are asking for a pay raise of at least 14 euros per hour to keep pace with inflation. The prices of basic necessities such as food, fuel, and electricity were all cited as reasons for strike. Even more clues pointed to Signa Holding’s Austrian founder Rene Benko. Bijenkorf’s parent business is owned in part by Signa Holding. According to reports, Benko is worth over $4.8 billion.
Paris – Coperni, where it went viral. The upstart Parisian label is all the talk after this presentation, despite the fact that identical stunts have already been pulled by Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan, and Viktor&Rolf. To that extent, it was unquestionably successful.
Paris – Parisian artists enjoying the works of their peers. Celebrating Comme des Garçons’s long-awaited return to the runway, Rick Owens and Michele Lamy. Rei Kawakubo, the soon-to-be 80-year-old designer, has described her next show as “a lament for the sadness in the world today and a feeling of wanting to stand together.”
