Issa Rae’s spidey senses are tingling, and she’ll be joining the Spider-Verse in the near future.
While her presence in the next Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel was reportedly announced back in June 2021, the actress and creator of Insecure is remaining tight-lipped about it at the 2022 Critics Choice Awards.
“I’m not sure whether I’m allowed to say this, but I love Spider-Man and would love to be doing it if I could,” Rae told Entertainment Tonight.
Rae will play Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’ve liked Spider-Man since I was in third grade.” Last year, the actress posted in her Instagram story, “A dream come true.”
Shameik Moore (Miles Morales/Spider-Man) and Hailee Steinfeld (Spider-Gwen) round out the cast for the sequel.
The sequel will be released on Oct. 7, 2022, and will be co-written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who will also act as producers.
Issa Rae Wins Outstanding Actress in A Comedy Series at 2022 NAACP Image Awards
Congratulations to Insecure’s cast and crew! For its fifth and last season, the hit show won Outstanding Comedy Series at the 53rd Annual NAACP Image Awards.
And Issa Rae’s work in HBO’s Insecure earned her the award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series.
In 2016, Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore co-created the HBO series. Rae’s 2010 online series Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl inspired the series, which launched the writer/producer into superstardom.
According to HBO, Insecure is centered “on new and old relationships to find out who and what comes with them in this next part of their lives.” On social media, viewers frequently commented on the amusing romantically linked situations, which really helped bridge the gap between Issa’s digital footprint and TV repertoire.
Issa accepted the award for Outstanding Comedy Series alongside this year’s host Anthony Anderson. While winning the trophy, she smiled and screamed out castmates Jay Ellis and Yvonne Orji.
Insecure fans can still interact with the show in the virtual world! Insecure: The Come Up immerses players in the hilarious world of Issa Dee and Molly, as well as the rest of the cast, as they navigate their own adulting journeys and unexpected life occurrences.
