Deepika Padukone’s schedule was packed with screenings, panel talks, and parties during her time as a member of the Cannes jury this year. Padukone is a bona fide red carpet star, so she was under extra pressure to provide stunning outfits this week. She didn’t let us down at all. Padukone experimented with a range of styles and played with extreme proportions with the help of her go-to stylist, Shaleena Nathani. Padukone looked like she was having the time of her life on the red carpet.
Padukone wore a Sabyasachi silky top, high-waisted green slacks, and an intricate statement necklace to the official photo call for the jury members. She changed into a more formal gown by the designer later that night for a screening of The Final Cut, a sari-inspired silhouette with striped and sequin embellishment. It was a kind (and fashionable) homage to her roots.
Padukone has continued to favor striking forms that draw the attention of the paparazzi at her other film premieres throughout the week. For instance, she donned a crimson Louis Vuitton gown with a peplum waist to the premiere of Armageddon Time last week. She wore a tangerine one-shouldered gown by Ashi Studio, complete with dramatic ruffles, to a screening of The Innocent earlier this week. Against a sea of glittery dresses, her willingness to take risks and explore more risky territory—whether voluminous forms or loud colors—has been pleasant.
What about her appearance at last night’s closing ceremony? She was dressed in an ethereal, custom gown by renowned Indian designer Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, which was ruched in all the right places and included a massive pearl collar. Heavenly was the only thought that sprang to mind.
