Today, hundreds of musicians and thousands of music fans are travelling west. The first of two Coachella weekends has begun, with around 200 bands preparing to take the stage on one of seven separate stages of the next three days.

This weekend marks a watershed point in Coachella’s 23-year history, as it is the first time the festival has been held since it was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19-related concerns. The musicians on this year’s program are especially pleased to perform in the sandy California desert after a two-year wait. Megan Thee Stallion, for example, has hinted that she may perform an unreleased song during her Saturday (April 16) headline act, tweeting last week: “I got this song that I recorded and every time I play it for a woman they start jumping and clapping.” Before I officially drop it, I think I’d like to perform it at Coachella for the first time.”

The Weeknd, who will play alongside Swedish House Mafia, is also getting excited for the big concert; he was added to the festival’s lineup at the last minute when Kanye West dropped out. He tweeted, “We’re back home this Sunday,” with photos from his 2018 Coachella concert.

Check out how the performers scheduled to perform this weekend are preparing for one of the world’s largest yearly music events.
