HBO’s “Insecure” has been given a high-fashion makeover. Fashion lovers noted an unexpected cameo by none other than Pyer Moss’ Kerby Jean-Raymond in Sunday night’s episode 2 of the hit comedy series’ last season.

The designer wasn’t simply honing his acting skills, as it turned out. In this episode, Issa Rae’s character Issa Dee teams up with an up-and-coming designer named “Crenshawn” (Kofi Siriboe) to assist with the production and sponsorship of his newest fashion show.

“Insecure” costume designer Shiona Turini collaborated with real-life designer Jean-Raymond to produce a custom-made collection for the scenario in order to make it as realistic as possible.

Collaboration With An Actual Designer

Turini narrated in an interview how she thought it would be interesting to collaborate with an actual designer who can blend streetwear and high fashion as it speaks a lot to the script. She stated she collaborated with Jean-Raymond on casting the models, fittings, and outfit construction to achieve a full-fledged fashion show.

In the episode, Jean-Raymond sits in the front row and congratulates Crenshawn on his performance. Blue and red bandana-printed ensembles, including a bomber jacket, face masks, and bodysuit, were standout designs from the imaginary brand.

The Crenshawn collection was stunning.

This isn’t the first time “Insecure” has focused on fashion in the tv show. Molly, played by Yvonne Orji, was robbed of her gorgeous Amina Muaddi designer heels in a humorous scene last week.

Molly says in the scene, “You want the shoes, take the damn shoes.” Issa then proceeds to accept the robber’s offer of her basic flats, to which he responds, “Oh, no. You can keep them Issa. Keep them.”

Insecure’s final season follows our favorite characters as they analyze their new and old relationships in order to figure out who and what will accompany them in this new era of their life.

Watch Kerby Jean-Raymond’s appearance in the episode “Growth, OK?” This streams on HBO, Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+.
