It’s the most wonderful time of year – NYFW! Dressing for the chilly February weather is truly a challenge, especially when the art of the slay is your ultimate goal. Read these tips on how to stay warm while strutting these New York streets in attendance of the F/W2020 shows.
First and foremost, start with a good pair of shoes! Start your outfit from the bottom up with a quality pair of shoes. You can never go wrong with a sturdy leather boot. With the possibilities of rain, sleet, or snow, you should be prepared with strong yet stylish footwear. Once you have nailed down a boot for especially severe weather conditions, you can move on to your fancy heels.
A chunky heel or block heel is best for this occasion as you are going to be doing a lot of walking and standing in between shows (being that the average queue time while waiting for a show is approximately 20 to 30 minutes). But that does not mean you have to shy away from stilettos. If the perfect pump is calling your name, protect them from the potholed streets by replacing the stiletto caps with rubber ones. They last longer than your typical stiletto cap and can easily be switched out once they become raggedy.
Don’t forget to accessorize! Heels are not often the warmest shoes so layer yours with a cutesy pair of socks for a stylish yet functional upgrade.
As for you athleisure babes, your options are limitless! Bust out your favorite chunky sneaker and you are shoe in for an ultra-comfortable week of running from show to show.
Leather is trending tremendously this year. Select leather accessories (like gloves) and outerwear for a chicer (and warmer) layer.
To complete your outfit and be your truly luxurious self, don a sweeping cape. The length will keep you warm and draw attention to your shoes (which are no doubt, fabulous). If your outfit calls for a shorter cut, wear a fur (faux of course) that hits right at the hip to add texture and layers to your look.
Some of the best February NYFW looks I have ever seen include a classic and simple combination: a gown and some boots! Whether you opt for thigh high stunners or classic ankle boots, the look serves function and fabulosity.
Structured bags continue to trend and box bags are at the center of attention at the moment. They are perfect because they are usually spacious enough to hold your phone, touchup makeup, a few snacks, a mini water bottle, and a phone tripod (for those moments in between shows when you just have to get a photo of your outfit).
As previously mentioned, gloves add warmth and diva-vibes to any look. For the most over the top looks, wear leather gloves, satin gloves, or fur-trimmed gloves!
Now that you have your outfit inspiration, get out there and strut!
