On the breezy evening of January 28, STRAITT could be heard bellowed through the streets as friends, family, and supporters flocked to the famed Varik Street landmark, SOB’s, for Safaree’s debut album release party.
Not one to stray from his island roots, Safaree’s party featured bombastic DJ’s “DJ Young Chow” and “DJ Suave Luciano” who’s sets packed a wallop of throwback dancehall jams. “This is a west indian party tonight! If you don’t like soca and dancehall, this ain’t the party for you!” the DJ shouted over iconic reggae beats. The room buzzed with good vibes and fly dance moves and before long, the crowd was ready for Safaree!
With his glowing wife, Erica Mena and proud friend/castmate, Tahiry settled comfortably next to the stage, Safaree was ready to perform.
Opening with track one, “Parasites”, Safaree had the crowd bopping along to a boisterous track; the opening lyric boasts “1.5 – got that from Viacom – check!”
This album features 11 unique tracks with a vibe for every mood: “Why” when you are in the gym getting in a hardcore workout, “Sexy Body” for those pre-turnup moments when you’re getting ready for a night out, “Freak Dat” for when you’re a little tipsy and in the mood to twerk for you mans, and “Explosions” for when it’s time for a slowww whine. My personal favorite is track ten, a touching ballad titled “Purpose of Love”, featuring songstress Loomis, inspired by Erica and Safaree’s journey through love together.
Speaking of his inspirations and creative process, Safaree stated “It just comes. Whatever I’m feeling at the moment, whether I want to talk about love or what’s going on in my life, that’s just what comes to me.”
The feature list is not to be missed; it includes reggae/dancehall icons, Ricky Blaze and Sean Kingston as well as Safaree’s close friends, Phresher and Papoose to name a few.
