On the rainy afternoon of Monday, February 10th, Frederick Anderson debuted an edgy Fall/Winter collection to an Upper East Side audience.
With a mix of classic silhouettes including thin-strapped slip dresses and high waist midi pencil skirts, the show began with an interesting presentation of unexpected twists and turns.
Models donned sky-high hairdos reminiscent of peacocks which opened eyes to the unique color palette which was predominantly black with splashes of gold, green, turquoise, and a purple so deep it was nearly brown.
Open backs and extra high side slits along with sheer lace fabrics aligned with the risqué, barely-there clothing preference of recent popularity. Frederick’s interpretation included sheer sleeves and an abundance of lace.
Collection standouts were a matching silk pants and tank top set as well as a matching coat and pencil skirt set.
A nod to the free the nipple movement, I noticed a refreshing lack of bras or any shapewear on the runway.
Audience member, Emma Snowdon-Jones, noted how Anderson’s fascinating background contributes to his designs: “The show spoke to his very long career in fashion and his extensive knowledge. Prior to fashion, he was a Broadway dancer in Cats so that contributes to the drama and flair of his pieces. That’s the broadway aspect, not costumey but there’s that dramatic flair.”
