Concept Korea showcased three different designers this past Friday at Spring Studios. First up, LIE by Lee Chung followed by LEYII, and IISE. The F/W 2020 show is brought together to promote Korean designers outside of Korea.
LIE’s collection was inspired by 1960’s London which was evident in the use of vintage-esque tailoring, heavy trench coats and raincoats, and flowing ankle-length skirts. When speaking with the designer, Chung, he spoke inspiration he gained from the rude boys that moved from Jamaica to London who wore bold colors, tailored suits, and suspenders. The colors in the collection reflected typically rainy London with pale blues and grays brightened with flecks of bright red and royal blue. In a way, Chung modernized the looks by adding daring shoulder cutouts and unique boning to otherwise simple designs.
LEYII’s collection was created for busy women who need quality pieces (made of cashmere, cotton, and sturdy jersey) that can easily transition from one occasion to the other: work to the gym to meet with your boyfriend, etc. When speaking to the designer, she named the maxi cardigan with built-in belt as her favorite garment because it can be worn in multiple ways and is very functional. LEYII’s ability to seamlessly layer pieces without making the look feel clunky or overdone is exemplary.
IISE’s collection highlighted an edgy, sporty aesthetic with ankle-length raincoats, windbreakers with lace-up necklines, and shoulder harnesses. The all-black collection placed focus on angular lines and elongated silhouettes. The precise layering makes the upcoming fall/winter seem just slightly more bearable.
