With recent natural hair victories such as “Hair Love” winning the Academy Award for Best Short Film (Animated) and the establishment of The Crown Act across several states including New York, it is important to continue the celebration of natural hair love throughout every industry.
Fashion’s tattered history with natural hair and black models is a long, strenuous story that is finally turning around with the help of outspoken models and activists. Models are finally being met with hairstylists who know how to delicately and appropriately handle their hair, they are given the opportunity to walk with their natural hair as opposed to covering it up, and agencies are employing models with natural hair instead of turning them away and deeming them unkempt (as was previously practiced).
