As the pandemic barrels on, everyone has been becoming more and more familiar with the comfiest pieces in their closet. Hence why “Grandmacore” and “cottagecore” became just a few summer’s biggest trends so seamlessly.

Cottagecore fashion typically revolves around the clothing aesthetic commonly worn on TV shows and in films that depict farming and gardening work. Think oversized cozy cardigans, long flowing dresses just made for lounging around in a field somewhere, embroidery, and ruffles.

With the recent uptick in picnics (since there’s not much else to do), it’s no surprise cottagecore caught on so quickly and went hand-in-hand with the grandma-style that has been trending for quite some time now. But with summer coming to an end, it’s time to picture how you’ll move these beloved cottagecore pieces from your summer wardrobe to your fall wardrobe.

Light cardigan

My mother always told me to carry a light cardigan with me everywhere I go. Was my mother the original pilot of the cottagecore trend? This has been a tried and true staple in my wardrobe since before I could remember. I can recall dashing it over my shoulders at a chilly high school football game or a movie theater after a late-night, lending it to friends when they had an “emergency,” and even tying into a headwrap one time when my hair wouldn’t cooperate.

A light cardigan can be tucked into your jeans, tied around your shoulders or waist, and thrown over just about any outfit. A light cardigan is a cottagecore staple and yet stands on its own outside of the trend.

You don’t have to say goodbye to the easy-breezy dresses

While a breezy, loose-fitting dress might be the ultimate summer staple, it’s going to get a bit chilly when the fall winds start blowing. Layer the dress with a cozy cardigan on top or a short-sleeved tee underneath for a quick Fall switch up. On your feet, add a pair of boots and chunky knit socks.

Puffy sleeves

Puffy sleeved tops can be layered with a sweater vest or even a sweater dress on top. The billowing sleeves will create a satisfying contrast with the structured, sturdy knitwear.

Gingham

Gingham is typically deemed a Spring/Summer print because it is usually in pastel color and resembles the print used on picnic blankets. Opt for gingham in a darker color like navy blue for a seamless summer to fall transition.

Just a few seamless ways to squeeze a nostalgic trend into your everyday life.
