Concept Korea collaborated with Vogue Korea to put on their Spring Summer 2021 NYFW fashion show. “Concept Korea is a government-sponsored fashion show aimed at helping eminent Korean designers to promote themselves outside Korea” (NYFW.com). This season, Concept Korea presented three collections: Wnderkammer by Hye Young Shin, ul:kin by Seong Dong Lee, and Jarret by Jarret.
Wnderkammer
The digital designers created virtual sets that the models glided across. Set it what appears to be a concrete parking garage, the neutral tones, and textures of the designs meshed perfectly with the environment.
Collection standouts are
This modern take on the classic slip dress.
This nude pleated maxi skirt (a perfect staple piece)
This flowing shirt dress perfect for breezy strolls through the park.
ul:kin
Ul:kin’s digital set gave off a trippy vibe with its sidescrolling video and swirling kaleidoscope backgrounds. Perhaps the LSD text written across some of the designs can account for the trippy visuals.
The collection truly captured the essence of what 90s grunge fashion would look like in 2020. Cutoff button-ups, silky “pajamas” worn outside the house, and cozy sweaters give off the “I’m trying but not too hard” vibe that encapsulated fashion in the late 90s/early 2000s.
Jarret
Jarret’s collection featured a whimsical pastel palette of pale purples and greens (which has been very popular this season) splashed with sprinkles of orange and white.
It is truly a blessing that we have had the opportunity to see video presentations. We get a further peek into the designers’ minds. Set in a digitally altered fairytale forest, we get a peek at the Jarret’s inspirations.
Collection standouts are:
This gorgeous lilac coat! Light enough for Spring and Fall and easily layer-able for Winter.
This flowing jumpsuit layered with a white mesh top underneath.
This green speckled pattern that almost looks like leaves against the woodsy backdrop.
This hooded tunic. Remember that point in the 2000s when everything was hooded?
Overall, Concept Korea once again brought a unique perspective to NYFW.
