Anna Sui’s Spring Summer 2021 NYFW presentation seamlessly took on the essence of this summer’s booming cottagecore trend. Transformed into wearable “grandma pieces” for seasons to come, cottagecore is here to stay. With an actual cottage hanging as a back drop paired with a glossy green turf lawn as a set, viewers are encouraged to dream up socially distanced picnics wearing the breeziest lace and comfiest crochet.
This collection is reminiscent of the clothes that your grandma used to surprise you. You were unsure of them at first, but then they turned out to be some of your favorite go-to pieces. From what I can tell, that is the designers’ intention. With nods to both the “grandma” trend and the “grandpa” trend, almost every look was paired off with a matching bucket hat and the infamous socks with sandals combo.
Collection standouts were:
The white lace kaftan
The granny-style glasses on a chunky lucite chain
Hand-knit bucket hats (hello hair accessory of the season!)
The floral skirt with a rosy pink overlay paired with a cropped tee (complete with an embroidered patch on the front) and a matching bucket hat plus face mask combo!
And the few black dresses that break up the otherwise pastel and creme color palette
Anna Sui is the first designer I have seen this season to include COVID face masks in their collection. Hats off!
The collection is true to the brands’ classic bohemian (with a twist) essence yet refreshing with sprinkles of 2020/2021 trends.
