If you’re like me, you spend your Friday nights scanning the plethora of streaming services for a new show to binge-watch while binge-eating junk food. An evening full of the finest guilty pleasures. On one of my most recent scrolls, I stumbled upon HBO’s Euphoria, starring Zendaya Coleman. It is a hard show to miss as everyone with a social media handle has been going on about how great the show is. So I dove in. Euphoria is a mystifying show that paints a picture of modern-day teenage life by addressing taboo topics such as opioid addiction, nudes, and the beauty (and the awkwardness) of sexual exploration.
And like any fashion writer, I cannot watch a TV show or film without dissecting every inch of styling (from clothes to hair to makeup). Euphoria’s stylists (Heidi Bivens on costume design and Doniella Davy on makeup) did an excellent job capturing Gen Z’s near-professional, YouTube-honed makeup skills. “Teens” donned elaborate and explorative eye looks far better than my sad sick exploits into baby blue eyeshadow.
I, of course, was not the only aesthetic-appreciating eye spotting the next big makeup trend. Armed with dewy skin, wispy lashes, and iridescent adornments, makeup enthusiasts took to Instagram to share their interpretations of the flashy Euphoria eye looks. With Halloween approaching, I am sure we are going to see some of these looks paired with some very creative (and very skimpy) costumes.
